What is the Makerspace Showcase?

The annual Makerspace Showcase is an opportunity for individuals, groups and organizations to compare, share and show off their projects to the Carolina community. Entered projects will compete for several awards, including an audience vote, and will have the opportunity for professional photos with their makers. All participants will also receive a certificate signed by the Program Director for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Why a Showcase?

In the three years since BeAM opened its doors the Carolina making community has expanded from handfuls of curious students to a community that extends well beyond the UNC campus. To recognize and honor the members of this incredible community, the Be A Maker network will host its second annual Makerspace Showcase on April 6th, 2019. This event serves as a nexus to allow the many dimensions and perspectives within the community to come together and share how to take a risk, make a difference, and be a maker!

Where/when/how is it happening?

The 2nd annual Makerspace Showcase will take place on April 6th, 2019, in the West Lounge of the Student Union. This event will be open to the public from 6 to 8PM, with participant setup at 5 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend this event and grab buttons, stickers, and some BeAM-themed pictures for the ‘gram! MakNet, UNC’s student maker organization and our generous sponsors, will also host a table to answer any questions you have about making on campus!

How can I join?

We’re so glad that you asked! If you have a project that you want to submit for the Showcase, please register via the link below. Projects can be submitted by individuals or groups, and high-resolution photo displays can be showcased for large scale or community projects. In addition, entered projects do not have to utilize BeAM equipment. BeAM staff will also be at the event to watch over displayed projects so that participants can freely see other projects on the floor. So long as it exemplifies and shares making culture, all projects are welcome!
