BeAM Open Hours and Operations

BeAM’s fall open hours will provide priority access for research, entrepreneurship, approved academic use/coursework, and production of CPE/PPE for personal use. Recreational projects will be permitted for faculty, staff, professional and graduate students, but time and tool access may be limited. Undergraduate recreational projects will not be supported at this time.

MAKE A RESERVATION

Anyone planning to enter the Murray makerspace must:

  • Be working on an approved project, or be a member of a user group mentioned above
  • Already be trained and certified to use the space and specific tool requested
  • Reserve a specific space/tool using our online system
  • Feel well, with no symptoms of any illness
  • Wear a properly fitted face mask/covering in accord with University and CDC guidelines – must be worn at all times while in the makerspace
  • Wash hands before checking in
  • Call out their PID for staff to input into our check in system
  • Adhere to social distancing guidelines (min. 6’ distance from others at all times), using makerspace ingress/egress lanes and work envelopes
  • Follow best practices for hand and respiratory hygiene outlined by the CDC
  • Disinfect workstations after each session

Our Murray makerspace will have a maximum occupancy of 8 patrons with the following tools and work stations available for use:

  • 3D Printers: 3 seats per hour
  • Laser Cutter: 2 seats per hour
  • Sewing: 1 seat per hour
  • Electronics (1)
  • General Making/Basic Tools (1)
  • Wood Shop (1)
  • BeAM Custom Shop (Max occ. 1)
    • Embroidery Machine
    • Cricut Maker
    • Serger

University Holidays and Breaks

BeAM makerspaces will be closed in accordance with University holidays and breaks. Please note that BeAM spaces will be closed:

  • September 5-7 for Labor Day
  • November 21-29 for Thanksgiving
  • December 12 – Jan date T.B.D. for Winter Break
